About Kanto Tactics

Picking Charmander, Bulbasaur, or Squirtle is only the start in Kanto Tactics. This browser game takes the Pokémon you know from Kanto and puts them into auto-battler fights where team setup matters more than quick reactions. You buy Pokémon, arrange them on the board, and let the battle play out. A strong team can still lose when its positioning is poor or its gold has been spent at the wrong time.

Build a Team That Works Together

The story mode takes you through Kanto on the hunt for eight Gym Badges, with the Elite Four waiting at the end before you can unlock the tower. A PvP beta mode is also available for those who would rather test their lineup against another player.

You can place seven Pokémon on the field, giving you more room to experiment than in auto-battlers limited to six units. The shop lets you recruit new Pokémon, sell ones that no longer fit, refresh its stock for two currency units, or buy EXP for four. After a battle, the Poké Center offers recovery or experience at a cost of eight health, so visiting it isn't always an easy decision.

Type combinations can change the whole fight. A Ground-type synergy cuts damage taken by your team by 12%, while familiar type matchups still apply. Ghost moves, for example, have no effect on Normal types. Evolving Geodude into Graveler is another way to improve your lineup, and there's a 1-in-200 chance of finding a Shiny Pokémon with better base stats.

Don't Blow All Your Gold

Money management can make or break a run. Holding more than 40 gold earns interest each round, which can pay off later even when spending it all looks tempting. Equipment gives you another way to shape your team: Quick Claw, Scope Lens, Leftovers, and Rocky Helmet each offer different advantages, and combining items can create stronger gear.

Individual abilities are worth watching, too. Rhydon's Horn Drill executes enemies below 25% HP and deals 40% of the damage taken to nearby targets. A well-timed evolution, a useful item, or a few coins left unspent might be the difference between clearing the next battle and rebuilding your team.
