About FNF

Friday Night Funkin', better known as FNF, is a rhythm game where timing matters more than anything else. You step into the shoes of Boyfriend, a young rapper with blue hair who is trying to stay with Girlfriend despite the many people who want to keep them apart. Instead of fighting with weapons or magic, every conflict is settled through music.

Meet the Challengers

The story unfolds across a series of Weeks, each introducing a new rival. Some opponents are family members who dislike Boyfriend, while others are far stranger. Demons, clowns, and other unusual characters all take turns stepping up to the microphone. Every Week comes with its own visual style and a fresh set of songs, making each stage feel different from the last.

How a Match Works

Songs follow a simple format. Your opponent performs first, and then it is your turn to respond. Colored arrows scroll upward on the screen, and you must press the matching key when the moving arrow lines up with the marker at the top.

A performance meter tracks how well you are doing. Accurate inputs push the meter in your favor, while mistakes give the advantage to your opponent. Too many missed notes will eventually end the song and force a restart.

Learning the Basics

New players should start with the Tutorial before moving into Story Mode. The controls are easy to understand: use either the Arrow Keys or WASD to match incoming notes. Once you feel comfortable, Free Play lets you practice individual songs without replaying an entire Week.

Tips for New Players

Trying to react to every note at the last second can make songs feel overwhelming. Instead, watch groups of notes and pay attention to the rhythm. Listening closely to the music often helps more than staring at the arrows.
