About Roguecraft

Roguecraft is a unique combination of two popular genres: roguelike and real-time strategy (RTS). It takes inspiration from classic roguelike games, which are known for their randomly generated levels, turn-based gameplay, and permanent death mechanics, and combines these elements with the resource management, base-building, and strategic unit control seen in RTS games.

Gameplay Overview

In Roguecraft, players take on the role of a commander who must explore procedurally generated maps, gather resources, build and upgrade structures, and manage a small army of units. The twist comes from the roguelike mechanics: each run is unique due to randomly generated environments, enemy placements, and item drops. Moreover, like in most roguelike games, death is permanent, meaning players must start from scratch when they fail.

The challenge of Roguecraft lies in balancing the exploration and risk-taking elements typical of roguelikes with the tactical decision-making required in RTS games. Players must decide how to allocate their limited resources to build their base, train new units, and explore the map, all while defending against waves of increasingly challenging enemies.

How to play Roguecraft

  • Q / E: Rotate the camera to change the viewing angle, which can help strategize and navigate complex terrain.
  • Number Keys (1-9): Quickly select groups of units or control groups. Players can assign specific units or buildings to these number keys for fast access during battles.
  • Spacebar: Center the camera on the currently selected unit or return to the base.
  • Shift Key: Queue multiple commands (e.g., move to one point and then attack an enemy) to units or buildings.
