Q*bert
About Q*bert
Q*bert is an arcade video game developed and published for the North American market by Gottlieb in 1982. It is a 2D action game with puzzle elements that was designed by Warren Davis and Jeff Lee. The game is played from an axonometric third-person perspective and features a colorful, three-dimensional look.
The player controls Q*bert, an orange-colored ball-shaped character with a long nose, big feet, and a short tail. Qbert hops from cube to cube on a pyramid, turning them from red to the target color. If Qbert lands on a cube that is already the target color, then the cube disappears. However, if Qbert lands on a cube that is a different color, then the cube turns red and starts to flash. If Q*bert lands on a flashing red cube, then he loses a life.
The player scores points by turning cubes to the target color and by collecting bonus items that appear on the pyramid. The player also scores points by defeating enemies. There are two types of enemies in Q*bert: Coily and Slick. Coily is a purple snake that slithers around the pyramid, trying to catch Qbert. Slick is a green slime that drips down from the top of the pyramid, trying to turn the cubes red.
Q*bert was a critical and commercial success. It was praised for its unique gameplay, its colorful graphics, and its catchy soundtrack. The game was ported to numerous home consoles, and it spawned several sequels. Q*bert is considered to be one of the most iconic arcade games of all time. It is still enjoyed by players of all ages today.
